Timothy Mahoney - Entrepreneur & Former Congressman
Timothy Mahoney served in the 110th United States Congress as a Democrat representing the 16th District of Florida, which spans the southern portion of the state from the Gulf of Mexico to the Atlantic Ocean. Mr. Mahoney earned a Bachelor of Arts from West Virginia University with a focus on Computer Science and Business. He earned a Master of Business Administration from The George Washington University in the nation’s capital.
Before his election to Congress, Timothy Mahoney spent 15 years running several computer technology companies, then founded the Center for Innovative Entrepreneurship and co-founded National Holdings Inc., a financial services firm which manages assets in excess of $3 billion. Known during his time in Congress as a moderate, pro-business Democrat and recognized as “The Most Effective New Member of Congress,” Timothy Mahoney succeeded in passing significant pieces of legislation, which had positive impacts on renewable energy, housing for senior citizens, tort reform, and many other issues.
After leaving Congress, Mr. Mahoney put his combined experience in public service, business management, and technology into practice when he created the business advisory firm Caribou LLC. Timothy Mahoney leads Caribou with the goal of offering strategic venture and private equity advisory services to corporations and chief executive officers interested in minimizing capital risk and optimizing return on investment. Among Caribou’s successful undertakings are a policy paper developed on behalf of a major security firm that was subsequently presented to the Presidential Commission on National Security; the creation of an energy strategy for a Canadian company that minimized the impact of pending U.S. tax legislation; and service to a Fortune 500 company that made the firm eligible for $25 million in research funding in association with the government of Canada.
