An accomplished business educator with significant real-world experience, Gabriel Bitran, PhD, currently serves as a Professor of Management Science with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Sloan School of Management.
Mr. Bitran earned Master’s degrees from the University of Sao Paulo and MIT before pursuing his doctoral studies in operations research at the latter. Completing his PhD in 1975, he returned to MIT’s Sloan School of Management in 1984 to work as a Professor of Management Science. From 1989 to 2008, Mr. Bitran also served as a Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Professor of Management, and he held the position of Deputy Dean of the Sloan School of Management from 1998 to 2003.
Gabriel Bitran balances his academic and professional responsibilities with advisory and consultancy engagements. In the past, he consulted with companies from a diversity of industries, including the electronics, telecommunications, financial services, hospitality, and banking sectors. Currently, Mr. Bitran serves as an editorial board member of the Journal of Technology and Operations Review and as an Associate Editor of the Brazilian Journal of Operations Research.
In addition, he presented at such conferences and seminars as the MIT-Nike Workshop, the Zaragoza Conference on Supply Chain Management, and the Production and Operations Management Society (POMS) annual conference.
