He also treats patients who suffer from traumatic injuries such as those with shattered and fractured clavicles, as well as those who have long-time degenerative problems such as shoulder arthritis.
Dr. Millett is also a skilled researcher and is one of the earlier pioneers in orthopedic shoulder surgery offering patients the anatomic total shoulder replacement surgery, the ‘double-row’ rotator cuff technique and tendon transfers for massive rotator cuff repairs. He performs the majority of his surgeries using the minimally-invasive arthroscopic surgery technique for both shoulder, knee and elbow repairs.
A native of Pennsylvania, Dr. Peter Millett received his undergraduate degree from the University of Scranton and his medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School in Hanover, New Hampshire. He also studied as a research scholar at the University of Cambridge in England, where he was awarded a master’s degree in science (M.Sc.) for his work in skeletal biology.
Dr. Millett performed his orthopedic residency training at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City where he twice received the Lewis Clark Wagner Award for excellence in orthopedic research. Dr. Millett earned additional subspecialty, fellowship training, in sports medicine, knee and shoulder surgery in the coveted Steadman Hawkins Sports Medicine Fellowship in Vail, Colorado. As a fellow, he also served as an associate physician for the Denver Broncos professional football team, the Colorado Rockies Major League Baseball team, and the U.S. Ski Team.
He has authored over 80 peer-reviewed, scientific articles on shoulder repair, shoulder replacement surgery, shoulder arthroscopic surgery and other related topics. He also has numerous book chapters, and two books on orthopedics, sports medicine, and shoulder surgery. His academic work has been recognized with awards from several international societies.
