In Brookfield, Connecticut, one restaurant location has a history spanning almost 90 years, including a period of time as a speakeasy during the Prohibition. In 1990, chef and entrepreneur Chris Bruno purchased the venue, then known as Fiddler's, and began creating an innovative menu that includes such dishes as paella Valencia, sweet potato crushed black bean crabs cakes, and duck liver pt. Chris Bruno renovated the location for the first time in 20 years and doubled the size of the parking lot, garnering attention from local news sources for his success. Chris Bruno officially renamed the venue Chris's American Restaurant in 2003. For 19 years, Chris's American Restaurant provided creative American flavors to patrons of all ages and upheld its reputation for extraordinary service. Chris Bruno led Chris's American Restaurant with years of experience, having graduated from the culinary program at Johnson and Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island. Chris Bruno also trained alongside European chefs to learn about innovative techniques and unconventional flavors. In 2010, Chris Bruno implemented another change to Chris's American Restaurant, changing from a restaurant with progressive American cuisine to an exciting, group-friendly sports bar. Chris's American Restaurant is now known to its loyal patrons as 189 Sports Cafe. In addition to his success with Chris's American Restaurant, Chris Bruno also serves on the board of Family & Children's Aid, Inc., a local nonprofit group that provides services and resources to children in need. Chris Bruno was re-elected to the board in 2010.
