Richard Shafer brings more than 25 years of experience in retirement planning to his position as the Executive Director of Well and Good, LLC, in Madison, Wisconsin. Holding the designation of Fellow with the International Society of Certified Employee Benefit Specialists, Inc., Shafer collaborates with boards and officers at large and small organizations to develop comprehensive retirement plans. Over the course of his career, Richard Shafer has continued to supplement his industry knowledge and business acumen through educational programs at the Boston University Graduate School of Management, Babson College, and the Center for Creative Leadership. Prior to founding his own business, Shafer served as the Senior Manager and Director of Retirement Plan Solutions with the CUNA Mutual Group in Madison. He operated in this capacity for four years, designing retirement plans for 130,000 employees at more than 4,000 different credit unions.
Richard Shafer gleaned his initial insight into the industry with the Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association – College Retirement Equities Fund (TIAA-CREF), where he spent nearly two decades. After starting as an Advisory Officer, Shafer earned a promotion to Second Vice President and assumed responsibility for an underperforming region on the West Coast. He quickly raised awareness about TIAA-CREF and continued his work in the area as the Regional Vice President. In this position, Richard Shafer procured contracts with several major public education pensions through strategic, multifaceted campaigns that nurtured relationships with local educational associations as well as state boards and committees.
