Julian Carta


With many talents and interests, Julian Carta has a varied academic, personal, and professional background, including extensive experience as a volunteer swim coach and a variety of hobbies he enjoys in his free time. While he is currently employed at the Institute for Shipboard Education, he also offers his evenings to the Piedmont Family YMCA in Charlottesville, Virginia, up to three times a week. As an Assistant Coach of the CYAC Swim Team, he organizes team practices, controls set pace, and coordinates the team's dry-land workouts. Prior to his volunteerism at the Piedmont Family YMCA, Julian Carta held a position as the Head Lifeguard and Pool Manager for Boar's Head Inn for nearly five years. The organization named him Lifeguard of the Week on numerous occasions. For four years, he also worked at Crozet Park Pool as an Assistant Swim Coach for a 250-member team. Aside from coaching swimmers, Julian Carta enjoys playing music. He has been writing and performing various genres of music since age 11, and he studied jazz guitar while a student at James Madison University. He currently plays guitar for the Moby & The Dicks band and has written numerous compositions for the group. Snowboarding, reading, hiking, diving, and traveling are also among Julian Carta's hobbies, and he has strong interest in contemporary politics, economics, and human rights. To share his views, Mr. Carta wrote opinion pieces regarding these subjects in The Breeze, James Madison University's student newspaper. Julian Carta has supported a number of community service organizations, including the Homeless Action Scheme at Christ Church College and the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen.
