Jeff Ballard - Dreamer and Practicing Grumpy Old Man

Jeff Ballard

I am a 50-something year old fellow with a lovely wife who has built up a wonderful tolerance level for the antics of her spouse, two beautiful daughters who are making their way quite nicely into adulthood, and a younger son who is destined to be a super professional athlete or an influential leader of the free world (if he doesn’t get sidetracked by pursuing a career as a gangsta rap artist, yo yo).

My oldest has recently returned to graduate school, living true to the first child syndrome, God help her! My younger daughter is pursuing a career in retail management, and enjoying it. My boy’s focus is on gold …. Runescape gold! But God only knows what the future holds for his generation.

My career in a nutshell, started college as a Biology major, Psychology minor student, got a bit disillusioned with my plans, joined the Navy for a stint, returned to college afterwards and pursued (and earned) my BSEE degree. I went to work in the engineering field took master’s level classes in marketing & economics along the way. Shifted gears a bit and pursued and completed a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology. Went through some curious career twists eventually crossing over into more of the business side (the Dark Side) of the technical world.

Today I work as a proposal analyst for a networking and computer products VAR. Always a lot of work, too often with short fuses and a LOT of pressure!

On the personal side I am tempering the pangs of entering mid-life by obsessing on sports cars (old foreign-made beauties) and I still dabble in things in the paranormal realm. To summarize ... I work too much, sleep too little, eat too much ... isn't life grand?
