Ian Hollyer, a full-time student at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, currently pursues a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. He also participates in school activities as a member of the Carleton Ultimate Team (CUT), one of the best ultimate Frisbee clubs in the nation. Ian Hollyer and his team won the 2011 Ultimate College Championships in the United States and placed second in the 2010 competition. While studying abroad in 2011, Ian Hollyer took his talents to Denmark, where he helped his squad win the Danish national championships. Hollyer trains as many as 15 hours every week.
Also successful in his academic career, Ian Hollyer maintains a grade point average of 3.81. Expecting to graduate in June 2013, he has supplemented his coursework with experience as a researcher and as an emergency medical technician. He has served as a Resident Assistant with Carleton College Residential Life as well. In this role, Hollyer collaborated with staff members and school groups to promote cultural diversity, community relations, and campus safety.
As a researcher in the Department of Biology at Carleton, Ian Hollyer assisted in multiple research studies. In his capacity as an Immunology Researcher, he administered Bisphenol A (BPA) to mice in order to study the compound’s effect on the regulation of gene expression in mice. He also worked concurrently as a Plant Biology Researcher. In this position, he examined plant species in southeast Minnesota and presented his findings to members of the American Society of Plant Biologists.
Ian Hollyer maintains certification in wilderness first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. He also spent more than a year working as an emergency medical technician with Charlotte Volunteer Fire & Rescue while still in high school.
